whatever happened in gilgit-baltistan in recent times is very unfortunate for all of us. it has compelled us 20 years back. it will only prevail poverty, hunger and bloodshed in the region. now it is time to rise above yourself and realize the need of the hour to accept each other and move on.

Gilgit Airport

Gilgit airport is a small domestic airport, located at Gilgit, Northern Areas, Pakistan. The city of Gilgit is one of the two major hubs for all mountaineering expeditions in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. Many tourists choose to travel to Gilgit by air since the road travel between Islamabad and Gilgit by Karakoram Highway takes nearly 24 hours, whereas the air travel takes a mere 45-50 minutes.

Gilgit is located at an area of 72,496 km in the North east of Pakistan . The city had been a central point of trade and political activity as early as 1st century AD. Since then it has always been a very strategic point for the neighboring countries. Surrounded by the massive mountains of Karakorums Gilgit is largest town of northern area of Pakistan. Beyond here there is no such a big town or city in any direction within a distance of about 450 Kilometers in any direction. Gilgit is the administrative and commercial capital of Northern areas.

The road to Gilgit is an other adventure and beauty filled experience Karakorum Highway built Between 1966 to 1978 by the Chinese and Pakistani engineers, above the shoulders of gigantic mountains of Himalayas , Hindukush & Karakorum ranges. More than five hundred lives are buried under this marvelous road which is known all over the world for its beauty and variation in terrain and culture. The highway runs along the river Indus and later continuos to Gilgit on Gilgit river. Each stop of this highway will definitely force you to admire it. There are nice PTDC motels on main points and towns of the Highway.
An Ideal Itinerary will to take go from Islamabad to Besham overnight at PTDC motel Besham is located on the Bank of Indus river. Later you continue to Gilgit With several photo stops on the way. There are also some interesting Rock drawings from the Buddhist period along the road.

Naltar is probably one of the most spectacular Excursions in Pakistan, for those who like a little bit of adventure. The road to Naltar is pretty but Very dusty until the village of Nomal after Nomal you drive along the side of mountains and the climb is quite steep. At the upper Naltar you very instantly see the beautiful meadows the temperature is also very comfortable so one can really get a fancy escape from Gilgit`s heat. There is a small restaurant at the meadows which can serve a hot meal or you can carry Lunch boxes from Serena and have the restaurant make tea for you.

Indus river starts from Gilgit Baltistn. Which has great potential to produce electricity at low cost. This river is also used for irrigation. Currently the Government is working on Dimar basha dam in future it will produce 45000 mw electricity and it 'll also helps to store water.This dam 'll attract tourist due to its uniqueness.

gilgit baltistan is one of the most beautiful land located in the earth. tourism is the main industry of this region but from few years this industry is not going well due to war against terror in pakistan. people generally thick that there is security threat in this region and it is not save to go this region but actually it is not so. it is a peaceful region from decades and people are loving and peaceful. there is no war going on in this region. gilgitbaltidtan is mountainious area and karakoram and hindukush lies in this region. there is great potential to attract the people around the globe but it will only be possible if we make some efforts to bring awareness among the people through different compaigns by media channels. the important thing which we have to do is that we have to change the perception of people by telling the reality that it is peaceful region and there is no war going on there.long live gilgit-baltistan
